Active recall study app

Stop rereading. Start remembering.

Upload your notes, textbook chapters or lecture slides. LrnFlow turns them into short practice quizzes written from your own material, then brings back the topics you're weakest on — so you remember more in less time.

Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of plant cells and happens in two stages.

In the light-dependent reactions, which occur in the thylakoid membranes, chlorophyll absorbs light energy. This energy is used to split water molecules, releasing oxygen as a by-product, and to make two energy carriers: ATP and NADPH.

In the Calvin cycle, which takes place in the stroma, the enzyme RuBisCO fixes carbon dioxide from the air. ATP and NADPH from the first stage power the reactions that turn this carbon into G3P, a sugar the plant uses to build glucose.

Question 1 of 3Easy

Where do the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis occur?

The Problem

You don't forget because
you didn't study.

You forget because you stopped retrieving. The brain doesn't preserve memories through passive re-exposure — it strengthens them through active recall.

⅔
of the effort, again, after a day

In Ebbinghaus's forgetting-curve experiments, relearning a list one day later took about two-thirds of the original effort — a result replicated in 2015.

Murre & Dros (2015), PLOS ONE
1 week
later, testing beat rereading

Students who practised recalling a passage retained substantially more after 2 days and a week than students who reread it — even though rereaders felt more confident.

2 of 10
study techniques rated high utility

A review of 10 popular techniques rated practice testing and spaced practice highest. Rereading and highlighting were rated low.

The Product

How it works.

Upload once, then study in short sessions. Most materials are ready for a first session in about a minute.

Upload

Drop in any material

Upload a PDF, Word, PowerPoint or text file. LrnFlow splits it into topics and writes questions for each one. Your first questions are usually ready in under a minute — start studying while the rest is processed.

Active Recall

The science of
not forgetting.

Active recall — retrieving what you learned instead of rereading it — is one of the best-supported study techniques in cognitive science. LrnFlow makes it effortless: no flashcards to write, no wasted time.

“Testing is a powerful means of improving learning, not just assessing it.”

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is LrnFlow?

LrnFlow is an active recall study app. You upload your own study material — notes, textbook chapters, lecture slides — and it turns each topic into short multiple-choice practice sessions with instant feedback, then tracks your mastery of every topic.

What is active recall, and why does it work?

Active recall means retrieving information from memory — for example by answering a question — instead of rereading it. Research on the testing effect has found that practising retrieval leads to better long-term retention than restudying the same material, even though rereading often feels more productive.

Does LrnFlow use spaced repetition?

LrnFlow tracks your mastery of every topic, and Review sessions bring back the topics you're weakest on, so you return to difficult material over several days instead of cramming it once. It isn't a flashcard scheduler like Anki: you don't write or rate cards — the questions come from your material, and your answers decide what comes back.

Is LrnFlow free? Do I need an account?

LrnFlow is free to use, and no card is needed. You do need a free account — your name, email and a password — so your materials, progress and streaks are saved on every device you use.

What files can I upload?

PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and plain-text files, up to 15 MB each.

How long does it take to create questions?

LrnFlow reads your document a few pages at a time and writes questions as it goes, so your first questions are usually ready in under a minute. Long books keep processing in the background, and you can start a session as soon as the first questions are in.

How are the questions written?

Your material is split into topics, and an AI model writes multiple-choice questions for each topic from your text, each with an explanation of the correct answer. Sessions then mix questions across topics, or focus on one, depending on the study mode you pick.

Can I study with friends or classmates?

Yes. Create a study group or join one with an invite code, share materials with the group, chat, and run live group sessions where everyone answers the same questions — competitively or collaboratively.

Is there a mobile app?

LrnFlow is a web app: it works in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app. The native Android app is no longer receiving updates, so use the web app on Android too.
